Several measures are in place to make it as safe as possible for Schoolies and the event has a 100% Safety record in all 14 years that it has been running. As a nation, Vanuatu is one of the safest places in the world, with a superior safety rating to Australia. Crime, drugs and theft are all non-existent on this friendly island – which makes it no surprise that Vanuatu has been awarded the title “The Happiest Place on Earth”. It’s the perfect island for Schoolies just off the coast of Australia in a country where hotels, shops and bars are run primarily by Australians, New Zealanders and French. Unlike other destinations, in Vanuatu safety is a natural component of this island destination. 24 hour security is on-site for extra peace of mind and Schoolies reps are at the venue to assist.

Hundreds, and growing. New bookings are made daily.
Yes. This is the Main Schoolies Event in Vanuatu – Sure Thing Schoolies Vanuatu at Aquana Beach Resort Vanuatu which is waterfront in the centre of the action in Vanuatu’s capital.
Yes, every night. Your booking will come with your official “Sure Thing Schoolies” Wristband. Vanuatu is set up to accommodate schoolies parties and events during schoolies week. This is probably the most exciting part of the experience for most people 🙂
Yes, Sure Thing Schoolies Packages include your flights as well as the Schoolies transport between the airport and the Hotel (in both directions)
No. You don’t have this restriction at Sure Thing Schoolies accommodation
Most people in Vanuatu speak English very well, especially those who are linked with the tourism industry (eg. hotel staff, taxis, shop staff). Schoolies have no issues with communication in Vanuatu.
Things are priced similarly to what they would be in Australia. Though, you will find that certain things are remarkably cheaper.
Enjoy the fantastic food available on the main island of Vanuatu! The food includes all the normal stuff you would expect (remember that Australians are the main visitors to Vanuatu!) It would include things like Pizza, Chicken, Steak, Pasta, Fish and Chips, Wedges, Seafood, Burgers, Fresh Fruit. Basically all the things you would be used to in Australia – The only difference is that the ingredients in Vanuatu are of much higher quality since they are all fresh and organic, and taste much better in Vanuatu. You can purchase food ‘by the meal’ at the hotel restaurant, or get the schoolies meals package (better overall value). This cheaper option is pre-paid meals package that comes with the Silver, Gold and Ultimate packages, it can be arranged by contacting schoolies@surething.com.au if you don’t have it already.
Yes. Let us know in advance and we will request the correct food for you.
You don’t need a passport to make a booking, but you will need one before you travel. You get them at the Post Office. It’s a good idea not to wait too long after making a booking to start organising your passport. Try not to leave it any later than 2 months before you travel.
No, you don’t need a visa to get into Vanuatu if you have an Australian Passport.
Vanuatu has been recently labelled as “The Happiest Place on Earth”. Violence is not a part of their culture. When you have a beautiful tropical island with great food, warm weather and extremely friendly locals, you can start to see why Vanuatu would be given such a label.
Yes. Activate Global Roaming. This needs to be done before you leave Australia. Generally speaking, those on post-paid mobile plans can call customer service at their Telco and activate global roaming so that it works overseas. It’s a good idea to make sure at least one person in your group has a mobile phone that will work.Alternatively, bring an unlocked mobile phone with you and get a local sim card in Vanuatu on arrival for around $6. The phone that you bring will need to be unlocked (not locked to an Australian network) if you intend to use it for a Vanuatu sim card. To unlock your phone from your Australian Network contact your phone company for instructions. If parents/friends need to contact you but can’t get through via mobile, the phone number of the hotel where you will be staying is (0011) 678 35532 Aquana Beach Resort, Port Vila, Vanuatu.
Yes. Most visitors to Vanuatu are from Australia, so they cater for all our electrical products – they use the same plugs and voltage.
Vanuatu is in the same time zone as NSW and VIC during the summer season in which you will be travelling (UTC +11)
In some cultures, tipping and bargaining are common. This is Not the case in Vanuatu. If you see something for sale at a certain price, do not try to bargain as it is against their custom. At the same time, tipping isn’t part of their custom either. So if you’re happy with someone’s service, just smile and say “TankyuTumas” (Thanks a lot) rather than giving a tip. They feel bad accepting any tips, and will refuse. The only time you can bargain a price is with a taxi ride (if you need to use one for any reason) since there isn’t set pricing in place.
There is a free daily shuttle from the Schoolies resort to the centre of town. Transport is considered safe. In town there are many taxis and buses which can generally be flagged down as they pass you. Buses are cheaper, and it should cost you only 200VATU or 300VATU ($2 to $3 Australian) to get to another part of town. If you need any help, ask a staff member or rep from Sure Thing Schoolies who will be on-site at the accommodation.
No. The Schoolies accommodation is strong and has never been affected. This confirms just how safe it is.All is well in Vanuatu and better than ever. Everyone is saying there has never been a better time to visit Vanuatu.
Vanuatu is a very safe place to visit in this regard, safer than Australia, however please consult your doctor if you have any questions.
The local currency in Vanuatu is called the VATU. Although this varies, you can currently get 80 VATU with $1 Australian. You can exchange your money whilst still in Australia or at the airport when you arrive in Vanuatu, however, you can also exchange money in town (for a slightly better rate). If you have an ATM card, some of them work in the ATMs in Vanuatu and will give you the local Vanuatu Currency. There is an ANZ Bank and Westpac Bank in Vanuatu within walking distance from the Schoolies accommodation. In addition, almost all other Australian ATM cards work if they have “Cirrus” or “Maestro” written on them.
Yes, alcohol is consumed in Vanuatu, the same limitations apply as in Australia. If you choose to drink as a young adult on Schoolies – responsible use is encouraged.
When you arrive at the airport, you will be given a VIP Schoolies Vanuatu colour-coded wristband which you will use to get your meals as well as to access your accommodation. This should be kept on at all times, it also has important contact information on there. This is the only way to access the Schoolies parties and activities in Vanuatu since Sure Thing Schoolies is the Official organiser of Schoolies in Vanuatu.
When you have hundreds of Sure Thing Schoolies in the last 9 years saying they had the best week of their life at Schoolies in Vanuatu, they can’t be wrong. Get set for the best week of your life, guaranteed.
Just like the hottest concert tickets… The schoolies hotel rooms get snapped up nice and early, the earlier you book, the better it is for you. To get things rolling, contact schoolies@surething.com.au and let them know how many people are in your group. From there, they will send you an itinerary of the best available rooms and will give you details on how you can make them yours!
